Botox or fillers? The difference that matters to your face
One quiets muscle movement; the other adds volume. Mixing the two is common — the decision waits for an exam.
Botox works on muscle: it reduces the motion that folds expression lines. Filler works on volume and shape: it replaces what is missing or refines a contour. A vague request to “lift” might need one, both, or no injection at all.
Forehead, frown, and smile lines around the eye are often a botox conversation. Cheek hollows, lips, and chin are often a filler conversation. That is a sketch; the face is read as a whole.
Duration differs. Botox is repeated according to how the muscle returns over months. Filler usually lasts longer, still not forever, and varies by site and product.
In clinic we reject “fill everything.” If skincare, a peel, or time is the honest next step, we say so. Injection is a medical decision after common risks (swelling, bruising) and rare ones are named.
This is general education, not medical advice. Decisions and plans follow a dermatologist’s examination.
